The Digital Hook study researched and collated relevant information about digital exclusion on Anglesey and undertook desk and partner research, partner surveying and interviews. This research intends to underpin all future proposed broadband and WI Fi pilots on Anglesey and ensure programmes are rolled out where needed.

Digital exclusion in rural areas of Anglesey and North Wales had been identified as possible areas for intervention under the Rural Development Plan LEADER programme. The baseline data required to target the relevant excluded areas and related demographics needed collating before training programmes or pilots could be rolled out.

Greater understanding was required of the work being undertaken on the ground in tackling digital exclusion in order to prioritise where LEADER can be most effective and provide support where it is required.

The Welsh Government’s Delivering Digital Inclusion: A Strategic Framework for Wales refers to the need to engage with national and local community and voluntary organisations and networks to identify opportunities for training and economic outcomes, including using digital media, and peer to peer support.

Working with Citizen’s On-Line Menter Môn provided details of relevant contacts and facilitated workshops thereby enabling the work to be completed.

Conclusions

The resulting report provided an overview of digital exclusion on Anglesey and a clear understanding of the roles of various organisations in tackling digital exclusion. The report also identified gaps in provision and service which enabled LEADER funding to be targeted to relevant needs highlighted in the report.
